Beverly Widener
Beverly's multi layered pieces represent a departure from the polished realism of her earlier work. While not altogether abandoning naturalism, she has explored a growing interest in mixed media. She has mastered a wide variety of texture techniques, which she uses to entice the viewer into taking a closer look at her paintings. Beverly's Wood-Cuts have a more rugged application of pigment; the addition of glass and metal result in work that seems as much built as painted. Right angles and long vertical lines project a sense of solidness and fluidity that gives these pieces a pleasing architectural feel.
Always drawn to the arts, Beverly first studied privately with artists in her hometown, El Paso, Texas. At the community college, she graduated with honors and won several prizes in student shows. Her B.F.A. (magna cum laude) from the University of Texas at El Paso was accompanied by the award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in Painting.
Beverly's works are in private collections in the southwest region, California, and Chicago.
